Basic troubleshooting

  1. Close and reopen Kindling, then return to the task.
  2. Confirm your iPhone is running iOS 17 or later.
  3. Check notification and Live Activity permissions in iPhone Settings under Apps, then Kindling.
  4. If a purchase is missing, open Kindling Settings and tap Restore purchases while signed in to the Apple Account used to buy it.
  5. If smarter steps are unavailable, try again with a connection or turn them off. Local template steps still work offline.
  6. When reporting a problem, include your iOS version, Kindling version, device model, and the screen where it happened. Do not include your task text.

Frequently asked questions

Answers for common snags

How do I start a task?

Enter the one thing you are avoiding. Kindling offers one small first step. You can use that step or ask for a different one, then choose a two or five minute session.

You do not need an account or a connection. Template steps are available offline.

Why did I not get a timer notification?

Kindling schedules a timer-end notification only when notifications are allowed and the session ends while the app is not in front.

Open iPhone Settings, choose Apps, choose Kindling, then Notifications. Turn on Allow Notifications and make sure alerts are enabled. Focus modes and notification summaries can also delay what you see.

How do Live Activities work?

When supported and enabled, a session countdown can appear on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island. It shows fixed session text and the timer, never your task title.

If it does not appear, check Live Activities in iPhone Settings under Apps, then Kindling. Start a new session after changing the setting. Live Activities can also be dismissed directly from the Lock Screen.

What does Kindling Plus unlock?

The full starting flow is free for one active task at a time. Kindling Plus lets you keep multiple tasks parked and return to them later.

Monthly, annual, and one-time Lifetime choices may be shown in the app. Apple displays the current localized price and any trial eligibility before purchase. The Lifetime purchase does not expire and applies to Plus features in this Kindling app for its supported life. Read the full Lifetime terms.

How are purchases billed or canceled?

Apple processes all Kindling purchases. For a subscription, open iPhone Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Kindling. Canceling stops future renewal and does not request a refund.

For refund eligibility, use Apple's Report a Problem service.

How do I restore a purchase?

Open Kindling Settings and tap Restore purchases. Use the same Apple Account that made the purchase. If nothing returns, check your connection and Apple purchase history, then try again.

A lifetime purchase and active subscriptions are restorable. A canceled subscription restores only while its paid access remains active.

How do I delete my local data?

Open Your tasks, find an active or parked task, and tap Delete. Confirming permanently removes that task along with its steps, sessions, and AI request logs. Repeat for any other active or parked tasks you want to remove.

In Kindling Settings, Clear finished tasks permanently removes every task marked done or discarded, along with the same related data.

To remove all Kindling data from the iPhone, delete the Kindling app. Device backups are controlled by Apple and can retain an earlier copy until that backup is replaced or deleted. Kindling Settings also includes an option to exclude its local store from future device backups.

Does Kindling send my task to AI?

Not by default. Local templates always stay on your iPhone. On supported devices, Apple Intelligence can generate a step on the device.

If on-device generation is unavailable, Kindling asks separately before allowing cloud fallback. If you allow it, only the task title is sent through Kindling's Cloudflare Worker to OpenAI. You can decline and keep using local steps.

Still stuck?

Email us with the troubleshooting information listed above. We normally need only your Kindling version, iOS version, device model, and a description of what happened.
